In major developments last week, the Senate Environment & Public Committee announced plans to mark-up an 18-month extension of SAFETEA-LU the week of July 20, even as the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee announced its own plan to mark up a $500 billion six-year reauthorization bill that same week.  A sober reading of the political and related tea leaves suggests, at this stage, that the extension bill scenario is the more likely near-term outcome.
